LEGOLAND

Factory Adventure ride

My role: 3D Generalist

This is a massive media led darkride that was installed in New York, and it has since gone on to other LEGOLAND parks across the world.

-

I was involved in various stages throughout the project, however the biggest scene I was involved with was the 4th scene, here guests see themselves as minifigures which mirrored the guest movement.

-

My role was to provide the minifigure models, hair types, faces, and to create the art for the environment and the ride vehicle (which was to be made out of bricks).

Realtime bricks

As the scene opens the ride vehicle is shown as a pile of bricks on the ground, which quickly built themselves, as the whole thing is run in Unity I had to make optimized bricks that looked good from every angle.

After creating the ride vehicle base in Lego Digital Designer I made each brick that was the same type an instance, unwrapped them so they would all fit on one UV sheet, made a high poly version and baked them.

IP consideration

To make the bricks fit with the IP I made use of a script that unwrapped all of the studs to fit a specific texture sheet to show the LEGO logo.

I also created a metallic map for the bricks, giving them finger imprints that subtly enhanced the realism of the visuals.

Minifigures

With the minifigures I worked the opposite way around, starting with high poly models that were provided and making optimized models to run in engine.
